NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil VS Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick | Compassion Review | kikikaylzz | beautybykaylag

I recently got a small goodie box from Rimmel because I spent over $20 on their products.
One of their products was the ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in 004 Guilty Grey.

I will be comparing it to the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean (Due to not having a colour closer to the Rimmel pencil. I would have but Cherry Culture is taking FOREVER to ship my order. It's been 15 days! NOT IMPRESSED! anyhow...)
They're similar enough in colour though, black & grey, yknow!
Black Bean is probably more similar to Guilty Grey than the colour I was originally going to use, now that I look more closely at it.

 Idea Of The Colour

Tip

Tip

I didn't take as many pics of the NYX product because there isn't really much to show. There's no 'idea of colour' & everything is written on one side.

Packaging:
Rimmel - I definitely prefer Rimmel London's packaging. It's so much cuter. It looks so much better in black & has details on it.
NYX - I dislike that fact that NYX just has the name of the product and the name of the colour on it. It's boring in black & white. I think the packaging looks very cheap.

Creaminess:
Rimmel - I found it to be very creamy, probably more creamy than the JEP's. Due to it being more creamy, it was easier to swatch.
NYX - I do like the NYX JEP's ALOT. They're very creamy & work well, but I think Rimmel wins with this one.

Smudge/Rub Off:
Rimmel - I had a hard time trying to remove this just by rubbing over it with my fingers. It does smudge & go lighter but still leaves marks.
NYX - Practically the same thing happened with the NYX Pencil.

Removal:
I used my Garnier Micellar Water to remove both of these pencils.
Rimmel - I had a much harder time removing this one, but in the end it finally came off. It smudged alot before it came off. I had to rub hard & ended up making my hand red.
NYX - I had a tough time removing this one also, but not as bad as the Rimmel pencil. With the NYX pencil, it smudged massively & took a while to come off. It has awesome colour pay off so when I tried to remove it, it didn't want to budge. My hand ended up black & when it finally came off, it was red.

Colour Payoff:
Rimmel - The Rimmel pencil has really good payoff. I also like that it's a shimmer pencil rather than matte.
NYX - The JEP's have amazing colour payoff, they're alot darker & more pigmented than the Rimmel pencils. I definitely prefer NYX pencils in terms off colour payoff.

Colour Range:
If you've seen the colour range available for NYX JEP's, then you know there's really no competition between these two pencils. NYX has an incredibly vast selection of colours available (32), whereas Rimmel has 9 colours available.

Pricing:
Rimmel - The Rimmel sticks retail at $12.95 each
NYX - Jumbo Eye Pencils are $9.95 each.

What You Get:
Rimmel - You get 3.25 grams in the Eyeshadow Stick by Rimmel.
NYX - The NYX pencil has a whopping 5 grams.

1.75 more grams than Rimmel! That's not much, but in terms of the pricing & getting less for more, it really makes a difference!

Longevity:
I tested both pencils for an hour & neither had smudged or faded.

Uses:
Rimmel - Eyeshadow Base, Alone.
NYX - Eyeshadow Base, Eyeliner, Alone.

I personally don't see why you couldn't use the Rimmel pencil for more than just an eyeshadow as it seems to be practically the same as the NYX pencils. It just doesn't say that you can use them for everything.

VERDICT:
I personally LOVE both of these Brands. They're amazing for 'Drugstore' brands - Pretty much the only 2 brands I buy! However, it's clear in this situation that one is definitely better than the other! I have to choose NYX for multiple reasons.

  • You get more for less!
  • Can be used for multiple things.
  • Bigger colour range.
  • Lasts just as long & is almost as creamy as the Rimmel pencils.
  • If you're a person who prefers Matte to Shimmer, than these are the pencils you're looking for!
